Fetal
Alcohol Syndrome Working Group
Maternal
alcohol abuse during pregnancy can have significant, if not clearly
defined, negative effects on the developing fetus and newborn.
This Working Group will focus on the following challenges to public
health research: The development of methodologies to determine
the nature, extent, and consequences of maternal alcohol abuse;
the development of innovative approaches to identifying at-risk
women and neonates; and the development and evaluation of prevention
and treatment strategies which address the full range of problems
facing alcohol-abusing women and their families.
